Submitting an Article

blocks1bWe are always pleased to receive articles for the journal. Your article will be sent to readers for peer review. Then a decision will be made whether to invite you to be published.

Normally articles should be approximately 2000-3000 words.

Format

Please observe the following guidelines when writing your article:

  • Pick out the key messages you want to stress in bold.
  • Please submit three copies in print and a disc. Ideally this should be in Word for Windows
  • Write the title in capitals. Put this first.
  • Write your name underneath, on a new line in lower casement.
  • Photographs should be as sharp as possible, ideally in black and white, although colour photographs can be converted.
  • Diagrams and charts may also be submitted – these should also be in black and white.
  • Give a bibliography and references. The precise format is not stipulated, but the bibliography and reference list must give information showing: Author, initials, date of publication, title, place of publication and publisher. When articles are referred to, the page numbers of the article should be given.
  • Footnotes are not used in the journal.

Articles submitted should give the practitioner perspective, supported with evidence and theoretical reflection. The voice of the child, or advocacy for the child and parent/carer, should be present, as should an awareness and commitment to socio-cultural aspects of childhood.
Articles should not repeat well-worn ground unless it is showing practice move forward in a particular setting in a way that is reframed and of practical use.

Articles should embrace principles of inclusion, diversity and equality.

If you cannot fulfil some of the more technical requirements, don’t be put off. Contact the editor who will advise you.

Thank you for submitting an article and sharing your practice with colleagues in public, voluntary and private sectors, working with parents so that children enjoy health, care and education.
